Both extend and thin paint the same way; they differ in the finish left behind. Mixing them gives a satin between the two.

Acrylic markers are water-based and permanent once dry on porous surfaces; oil-based metallic markers cover dark and non-porous surfaces better. Both are listed separately for that reason.
